"...I teach through music because it is an area of expertise (not only from a desire to teach art). Having been raised by a family of educators, I am naturally drawn to teaching where having patience with a variety of students with different aptitudes is automatic. From an artist's perspective, I view teaching as a reexamination of one's own personal growth; an evolving wisdom of the learning process to be shared with future students. As a teacher, I feel an obligation to humanity to encourage a learning atmosphere rich in areas of critical and abstract thinking; we are the wealthiest country in the world but our quality of education continues to rank less than average. Art emphasizes the qualities in students which are most necessary in facing and overcoming real world challenges.
